Holbox

Holbox ("black hole" in Yucatec Maya), located on the north coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. It is approximately 12 kilometers long and 1.5 kilometers wide, and separated from the mainland by a shallow lagoon that is home to flamingos, pelicans and other birdlife. To visit this island it is necessary to take the ferry that depart from the mainland of Chiquilá

Most of the people of Holbox Island make their living fishing. It is common to see fishermen walking through Holbox Village with their catch of the day or carrying their nets. The streets of Holbox Island are made of white sand, common of Caribbean islands, and there are very few cars.
