Hacienda el Mortero

In colonial times and for centuries afterwards, the haciendas were the main production centers around which the country’s economy life was organized. In them, the landholder’s families led a life full of comfort and with all the luxuries available in those times. Creole cuisine (a blend of the Spanish heritage and of regional culture) became famous and created delicious specialties that are today an essential part of the Mexican gastronomic tradition.
The Hacienda El Mortero, situated in the northern part of the country, in the state of Durango, is deemed as a jewel of XVIIIth century architecture, its permanence today represents part of our cultural heritage. The Hacienda El Mortero is a scaled-down replica of the original building that revives all the traditions and atmosphere of colonial times with the finest of Mexican cuisine.
